The Threshold series takes us onto the axis and conveys the face and aspect of layers, mainly moderate in materiality with visual subtlety. Most figurative work creates an illusory space within a thin film of paint (a threshold) and we are reminded of this as the Threshold series reveals a thin border of raw linen substrate or a border of un-worked cleft Walnut. Threshold III has the raw substrate border but differs, as it portrays a grandiose alter of high art explored in its picture plane from layered viewpoints.
